Fire at ‘Three Storeys’ apartments in Wallaceburg

Emergency crews have responded to a fire at the apartment building at 800 Wallace Street in Wallaceburg, known at the ‘Three Storeys.’

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials are asking people to avoid the area.

“Chatham-Kent Police and Chatham-Kent Fire are currently on scene at a fire at 800 Wallace, Wallaceburg we are asking motorist and pedestrians to please avoid the area,” police officials posted on social media.

A witness at the scene told the Sydenham Current she was with her daughter at around 9 a.m. when she spotted the blaze.

“I could see smoke pouring out of the roof of the building,” she said.

Another witness said firefighters had to rescue him and his dog from his third floor apartment using a ladder.

“My bedroom was caught on fire from the unit next door,” he said.

“My whole room was filled with black smoke.”

Chatham-Kent Fire & Emergency Services officials have released a few details.

There has been no official details released about injuries at this time.

Fire officials say people displaced from the fire are being transported to the Moose Lodge in Wallaceburg.
