Municipal offices and most services will be closed on Monday, May 21, 2018 in recognition of Victoria Day.

Everyone is welcome to attend the Walpole Island First Nation 24th Annual Spring Powwow on this weekend. There is no admission fee and the general public is welcomed to attend. There will be numerous culture, craft and food vendors and information service booths. There will also be spectacular singing and dance exhibitions and specials. Grand entrance of all dancers is at 1 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.

The Sydenham Field Naturalists are holding a Plant Sale on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Peers Wetland in Wallaceburg. There will be trillium’s, wild ginger, goldenrod and more available for purchase.

The Dresden Spring Smash Demolition Derby is being held at the Dresden fair grounds on Sunday, starting at 4 p.m. Admission is $15, while kids under 10 are FREE.

The Foundation of the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance is inviting people to ‘The Final Push’ event taking place May 23 at 7 a.m. at Wallaceburg hospital site. They are also encouraged to ride along with Dave Depencier and Dan Van Moorsel as they return into Chatham-Kent on May 28, after their 6-day, 1,000 km bike ride from C-K to Toronto and back. They are hoping to raise $100,000 for new diagnostic imaging equipment.

The first installment of the Wallaceburg BIA Farmer’s Market is taking place on Saturday, June 2 at the old Liquidation World parking lot from 8 a.m. to Noon.

The 17th annual Sydenham Challenge Dragon Boat Festival is being held on Saturday June 2 at the Legion in Wallaceburg. Races will be taking place all day in the Sydenham River.

And finally…

On June 11, Chatham-Kent administration will hold a public forum free to the public on the coming legalization of marijuana. The session will be hosted on YourTV and residents are welcome to attend the event, which will be held in the Council Chambers at the Civic Centre in Chatham at 6 p.m.
