Dog tag enforcement campaign launched

Please be advised that representatives from PAW Pet and Wildlife Rescue have been contracted by the Municipality to visit residents throughout Chatham-Kent during August to ensure that all dogs have a 2018 municipal dog tag.

The by-law enforcement officers will not be selling tags at the door.

The Responsible Animal Ownership By-law #93-2015 requires that all dog owners must obtain municipal dog licences (tags) for their dogs by March 31 of each year.

Residents who fail to purchase 2018 dog tags risk being fined $240.

The cost of a dog tag is $38.00 per dog which includes the late fee provided the dog has been sterilized otherwise an additional $10 fee is applied.

The by-law enforcement officers will be identified by their PAW Rescue uniforms and identification name tag. In addition, the officers will be driving a vehicle marked with PAW Rescue Animal Control.

The manager of licensing services, Nancy Havens, stated that revenue collected from the sale of dog tags helps to support the municipality’s Dog Control Program, providing for, among other things, the care and feeding of lost or stray dogs and the placement of homeless dogs. It provides investigating officers with accurate information, allowing them to quickly and safely resolve situations involving dogs.

Residents who have not yet purchased a 2018 municipal dog tag may still do so by visiting the Chatham-Kent Civic Centre or any other municipal centre within Chatham-Kent.

Should you no longer own a dog, kindly contact 519-360-1998 to have your dog licence account inactivated. For more information on dog tags and animal control, please contact the Municipality of Chatham-Kent at 519-360-1998.
