Coming off the popular Dresden Christmas Night Market last December, organizers are excited to bring a summertime version of the event to the community.
The Downtown Dresden Summer Night Market is taking place on Saturday, August 18 from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. in the centre of Dresden.
St. George Street, Main Street, and Brown Street will be blocked off, creating a pedestrian-only area in the heart of the downtown.
This event will be different from the Christmas market, says organizer Moréna McDonald.
“We’re expanding the market to Brown Street to incorporate more vendors, live music, food trucks, and more,” McDonald said in a media release.
“Many shops downtown will be open late as well. We have a great partnership with the Dresden BIA, and have held weekly giveaways on social media leading up to the event which were sponsored by downtown businesses.
New this year is a Pop-Up Patio Bar, featuring only local beer and wine.
Organizer Tyler Ouellette says the event is all about supporting local businesses.
“We’ll be featuring beer from Sod Buster Brewing Co., Sons of Kent, and Bayside, as well as wine from Early Acres Estate Winery,” Ouellette stated.
“We think it’s important to support as many local businesses and organizations as we can. We’ve partnered with
the Dresden Kinsmen Club who will be taking care of this part of the event.”
The Dresden Sidestreets Youth Centre will be doing a fundraiser by selling lemonade, popcorn, candy, and more.
Proceeds from the Christmas Night Market Hot Chocolate Bar helped the Youth Centre to buy a new front door.
The Summer Night Market is sponsored by the Dresden Rotary Club, Dresden Foodland, North Kent Mutual Insurance, and 99.1 FM CKXS.
The Downtown Dresden Night Market was created in 2017 by a group of friends, and local event planning company 519 Events & Promotions.
