The infinite value of a clear conscience

From The Pastor’s Pen – By Brian Horrobin

For one U.S. college golfer June 5, 2018 will be a date that stings for a while but will in the end be a turning point in her life.

Kate Wynja, a senior from of Sioux Falls Christian high school, won the state golf championship by several stokes… until she found an error on her scorecard.

She turned herself in and, according to the rules, she was disqualified, handing the championship over to her opponent who was a distant second.

Her Christian convictions wouldn’t let her cheat, so she did the right thing and came clean.

She later said on Twitter, “Obviously today didn’t go as planned, but God has a plan and uses tough situations for His glory.”

Cheating is a major problem in the sporting world today.

The Boston Marathon deals with dozens and dozens of cheaters every year who try to sneak their way past the qualifying standards to get into the race.

Steroid use cost Lance Armstrong seven Tour de France victories, after he got caught, and left him disgraced and the object of harsh criticism.

Barry Bonds has hit more home runs than any other baseball player in history but his steroid use smears a huge asterisk next to his impressive stats.

That is why the actions of Kate Wynja are so refreshing and inspiring, and all because she did one simple thing, something we are all capable of doing.

She told the plain truth.

The apostle John, writing to a church, said this in 3 John 4: “I have no greater joy than to hear that my children are walking in the truth.”

It’s a simple fact but one that separates the men from the boys.

We need more Kate Wynjas in this world who inspire us to play the game fairly, and that includes the game of life.
