Letter: Driving is a privilege

Do you ever think of this when you get behind the wheel?

Most of us do not, yet it is very much a privilege!

There is a book (HTA) with hundreds of pages that controls limitations and legal and illegal actions that we the public are to adhere to.

Yet, most motorist drive as if the roads belong to them, why?

It is no secret that for many years we are aware that most collisions are due to human behaviour behind the wheel, many technological advances have minimized human hurt when collisions’ happen, but what about prevention beginning with us, the driver.

So please keep this in mind when you are, if you are passing three to four cars at the same time, it is illegal, or going at 100 in a 80 zone.

I know it is annoying to some people when we are driving the legal limit or doing legal stops, but it is a privilege, so we driver educators must teach legal driving.

The reason for this note today is because this time of year lots of people are in a huge rush!

I do mean a huge rush.

The drivers licence has our name on it, but it really isn’t ours, it can be revoked at any time, so please keep
this in mind next time you get behind the wheel: It is very expensive to get a driver licence, more so to keep it as we pay a fee for this and that in order to drive.

This privilege is okay for years so long we keep a good record, and insurance becomes lower as we keep a clean driving record.

Be safe on the roads, keep legal space, share the road with whoever is on it, and please keep in mind that no text however important is more important than a life.
