Stolen truck torched, suspect flees from police

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Yesterday morning around 9 a.m. a male party approached a residence on Winterline Road in Dover to ask to use the phone for a ride to Chatham, his truck had broken down.

The male was provided a phone, and a ride by a cab to Tim Hortons in Chatham.

Shortly after the male left in the cab the resident noticed his truck was on fire.

Police and Fire attended and safely put out the flames in the truck.

Officers were able to identify the truck as stolen from Kingsville, with two sets of stolen licenses plates on it as well.

Officers attended to Tim Hortons in attempts to locate the male party.

Once the male saw officers a short foot pursuit began.

Officers were able to catch the male party, and he was placed under arrest.

During the pursuit the male party had dropped items that belong to residence on Belle Rose Line.

Officers completed the investigation and as a result the 21 year-old Tilbury man was charged with possession of stolen property over $5,000, possession of stolen property under $5,000 x 2, arson, theft, fail to comply with probation order x 8.

He was held in custody pending a bail hearing.
