The Sydenham Current has added a new member to their sales team.

Wallaceburg resident Virginia Smith has been hired by the local online newspaper and will be starting her position immediately.

“I couldn’t be happier to be back working in the industry,” Smith said.

“I’m looking forward to reconnecting with local businesses in Wallaceburg, Dresden and the area and help them achieve their marketing goals. I’m thrilled to join the Sydenham Current team and to be working alongside Dana and Aaron.”

Smith worked in sales for the Wallaceburg Courier Press for 18 years and she retired from the paper back in 2017.

She can now be reached by phone or text at 226-627-5737 or by email at virginia@sydenhamcurrent.ca.

Dana Haggith, co-owner of the Sydenham Current, said they couldn’t have found a better person to take on the sales role for the Current.

“Virginia is the perfect fit and we’re ecstatic to have her on board,” Haggith said.

Aaron Hall, co-owner of the Sydenham Current and a Chatham-Kent Councillor representing Wallaceburg, said he is happy to see the Current team grow.

“Adding Virginia to our team was a no-brainer,” Hall said.

“Since the election back in October, we’ve been working hard behind the scenes to adjust our business model, so I could focus more time and attention to serving the community as one of Wallaceburg’s Councillors.”

“It was essential for us to continue serving the community with the Sydenham Current as well… providing up to date, quality information and stories to our readers. It was equally important for us to continue offering innovative, creative and affordable online marketing options for our local businesses on the Sydenham Current. Having Virginia on board is a key piece to the puzzle as we continue to transition and move forward.”

Chatham’s Tami Eagen is also a vital part of the Sydenham Current team, as she handles accounts receivable and increasing duties in the Current’s editorial department.

Wallaceburg’s Rori Bennett is a junior reporter for the Current, while Wallaceburg residents Pastor Brian Horrobin and Glen Turner provide guest columns to the paper as well.

Haggith will continue managing the sales department, on top of graphic design work, marketing and reporting/photography.

Hall will continue focusing on editorial and general management of the paper.

The Current was launched on February 24, 2014 and they will be celebrating their fifth year in business next month.
