Transport fire & two ‘personal injury’ crashes on the 401

Chatham-Kent OPP officials allege: On March 4, 2019 between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) in Chatham-Kent responded to three separate serious motor vehicle investigations in the eastbound lanes of Highway 401.

At 6:40 p.m. the OPP was urging motorists travelling eastbound on Highway 401 to exit at Kent Bridge Road (101 kilometer marker) and re-enter at Orford Road (117 kilometer marker).

A tractor trailer fire and two separate personal injury collisions have necessitated a full shut down of the eastbound lanes causing significant motor vehicle backup in the area.

In addition the OPP ask that you do not contact the London Provincial Communications Centre advising of traffic congestion in this area.

Sufficient emergency services personnel are currently on scene investigating and will re-open the highway at the earliest opportunity.

More information will be provided as it becomes available.
