CKHA physicians recognized

Chatham-Kent Health Alliance (CKHA) is pleased to celebrate the accomplishments of Drs. David Huffman and Zeke Milkovic, local Family Medicine Physicians, for their awards from Western University, Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry.

Dr. Huffman and Dr. Milkovic both received the Schulich Award of Excellence for Faculty in Community/Distributed Sites at an event in London, Ontario on May 30, 2019.

The Schulich Award of Excellence for Faculty in Community/Distributed Sites recognizes outstanding faculty educators in Southwestern Ontario who display exceptional interest and enthusiasm for the learning needs of trainees of the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry. These awards recognize an outstanding faculty educator who has displayed exceptional interest and enthusiasm for the learning needs of trainees.

Dr. Huffman demonstrates his ongoing commitment to education as Site Director for the Chatham Family Medicine Residency Training Program. His dedication to teaching shows in his consistent focus on providing a learning experience that is trainee-centric. Dr. Huffman’s understanding of the immediate needs of his trainees allow him to effectively provide individualized support. It is common to hear from trainees that Dr. Huffman’s caring approach has enriched their experience.

“I’m extremely proud of the program we’ve built in Chatham. It’s been gratifying to see our program grow into the success it is today,” said Dr. Huffman.

Dr. Milkovic’s dedication to high quality education is evident through his roles as Supervising Physician for the Chatham Family Medicine Residency Training Program and Adjunct Professor in the Department of Family Medicine at the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry. His thoughtful mentorship and teaching style tailors each learning experience specifically to meet the ability of the trainee. Dr. Milkovic’s effective communication and solid leadership skills support his trainees along their entire medical learning spectrum. His support of numerous initiatives benefits the patient experience between hospital-based and community-based care.

“It is an honour and a privilege to have been nominated and win this award. We teach because we love to do so, not for awards, but it is nice to be acknowledged. It is special to have won this award with my friend and colleague, Dr. Dave Huffman,” said Dr. Milkovic.

“Drs. Huffman and Milkovic’s commitment to providing an exceptional learning experience for trainees is commendable. We are proud of their accomplishments in guiding future Family Medicine Physicians in the provision of compassionate, high quality care,” said Dr. Pervez Faruqi, Chief of Staff, CKHA. “On behalf of CKHA, I would like to extend my sincerest congratulations to Drs. Huffman and Milkovic for this well-deserved recognition.”

Dr. Huffman completed his residency at Western University and has been teaching for Western University for 15 years. Dr. Milkovic completed his residency at the University of Toronto and has spent the past 13 years teaching for Western University. CKHA is a teaching site for the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry, annually accepting three home based physicians in training.
