73’s top Thunderhawks, Kings travelling to Wheatley

The Essex 73’s topped the Wallaceburg Thunderhawks in Provincial Junior Hockey League action on Tuesday.

Jake Vancoillie gave Wallaceburg the early lead with a goal just 28 seconds into the game on Tuesday in Essex. Noah Labonte and Jimmy Simpson had assists on the goal.

Essex scored three straight goals in the opening frame to claim the lead entering the first intermission.

After a scoreless second period, Jeremy Oriet scored for Wallaceburg on the power play, with assists from Vancoillie and Labonte at the 11:28 mark of the third, making the score 3-2.

However, the 73’s took control of the game with four straight goals in the final seven minutes of the game.

The final score was 7-2.

Nolan Hakr made 38 saves in the loss.

The 73’s out shot Wallaceburg 45-18.

The 73’s are in 4th place in the Stobbs Division with a 14-8-0-1 record. Wallaceburg is in last place with a 3-21-0-1 record.

The Thunderhawks will host Essex on Saturday at 8 p.m. in Wallaceburg.

In other Junior ‘C’ hockey action, the Dresden Kings will travel to Wheatley tonight, December 11, to battle the Sharks.

Puck drops at 7:30 p.m.

Dresden host Blenheim on Friday at 7:30 p.m. and will travel to Mooretown on Saturday. Puck drops at 7:30 p.m.

The Kings are in in 8th place in the league with a 7-14-0-1 record on the year.
