Police: B&E suspects face several charges, stolen vehicles, drugs

Update: Pair charged in connection with several break and enters

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: As previously released, around 4 a.m. Sunday morning, officers responded to an alarm at a residence on Bates Drive.

Fresh footprints in the snow were observed by officers leading away from the residence.

Officers followed the footprints for about an hour and a half and recovered stolen property, numerous pairs of gloves and a balaclava along the way.

As officers located the men, approximately 4 km away, one of them fled on foot and ran into a nearby garage on New Scotland Line.

The man was combative with officers, however was taken into custody.

Through investigation, police learned that the pair entered several garages, sheds and vehicles in the area of Bates Drive and Rose Beach Line.

A 23-year-old Blenheim man has been charged with:

– 11 counts of break and enter

– 5 counts of theft under $5,000

– 5 counts of being in possession of property obtained by a crime

– 3 counts of mischief

– Trespassing by night

– Resist arrest

– failing to comply with his release conditions

He was transported to the Courthouse pending a bail hearing and remanded into custody until February 14, 2020.

A 20-year-old Blenheim man has been charged with:

– 10 counts of break and enter

– 5 counts of theft under $5,000

– 5 counts of being in possession of property obtained by a crime

– 3 counts of mischief

– Trespassing by night

He was transported to the Courthouse for a bail hearing and released pending a future court date of March 4, 2020.

Man charged with breaching his probation order

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Yesterday morning around 11:30 a.m. a man took a car from a dealership in Chatham for a test drive.

Police were called a couple hours later when he failed to return.

Through investigation, police learned that the man drove to a residence in Duart and spoke with a family member that he was currently on conditions not to speak with.

Officers found the man on Spence Line as he ran out of gas.

The man fled on foot through a field, but was taken into custody following a short foot chase.

The 47-year-old man of no fixed address was charged with failing to comply with his Probation Order.

He was released pending a future court date of March 10, 2020.

The car was returned to the dealership.

Arrest leads to drug charges

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Last night, police located a man on Queen Street in Chatham who was wanted for breaching his Probation Order.

Upon being searched incident to arrest, the man was found to be in possession of suspected methamphetamine.

A 45-year-old Chatham man was charged with drug possession.

He was released pending a future court date of February 27, 2020.

Stolen vehicle in Chatham

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Sometime between Monday at 6 p.m. and this morning at 4:30 a.m. a 2007 white Pontiac Torrent was stolen from Thames Street.

Around 9 a.m. this morning, the vehicle was recovered unoccupied in an alleyway between Van Allen Avenue and Selkirk Street.
