The Chatham-Kent Police Service are investigating a homicide on Book Street in Wallaceburg. Inspector Trevor Crane says the investigation is in the early stages. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Chatham-Kent Police Service Major Crime Unit at 519-436-6616. More details, here.

The Sydenham Campus in Wallaceburg is getting a $7.3-million boost from the province. The funds are for the Replacement Power Plant Project for the site, which will replace aging equipment with new boilers, generators and electrical distribution equipment. Former Sydenham board chair Sheldon Parsons says the funding is great for the community. Construction completion should occur in 2019 with minimal disruption to patient services.

Doug Ford, the leader of the Ontario PC Party, made a quick stop in Wallaceburg on Friday at Country Style Donuts. A rally was also set to be held Friday evening at the Bradley Centre in Chatham. The 42nd Ontario general election is scheduled to be held on June 7th.

An earthquake rattled southwestern Ontario on Thursday evening. Natural Resources Canada says the magnitude was 4.1 and was felt in Windsor, Essex, Kingsville and the epicentre was just north of Amherstburg. No damage was reported across the region.

The Sydenham River water levels are falling across the region, after being extremely high all week. Conservation Authority officials say the slow movement of several low pressure systems over the weekend resulted in 50 to 70 mm of rainfall across most of the watershed.

It was another record year for the Community Living Wallaceburg Box Lunch fundraiser. Alicia Allaer, communications & fund development associate, says a total of 2,169 lunches were served. Approximately 60 people volunteered for the event.
