Nutrition Month being celebrated in Wallaceburg & Dresden

Fresh_cut_fruits_and_vegetablesMarch is Nutrition Month in Canada and this year’s theme is Simply Cook and Enjoy! The goal of the campaign is to inspire Canadians to get back to cooking basics and encourage everyone to cook and enjoy healthy meals with friends and family members.

There is growing concern over a lack of home cooking and loss of food skills among Canadians of all ages. Some reasons for this include time constraints, shifting values, and ease of access to pre-made meals. Reliance on a diet high in processed foods, pre-made meals and restaurant foods can result in significant negative health consequences.

Cooking skills help us to create more homemade meals which can improve our diet quality through preparing healthy and delicious foods. Also, cooking meals from scratch is associated with increased intake of vegetables, fruit and whole grains.

Let the dietitians from the Chatham-Kent Public Health Unit help you re-discover the benefits and ease of cooking homemade meals. During Nutrition Month, join us for free cooking demonstrations at the following library locations and times:

  • Chatham – March 12, 7:00 to 8:30 pm
  • Ridgetown – March 18, 2:30 to 3:30 pm

  • Dresden – March 25, 6:30 to 7:30 pm
