Pancake Tuesday at Christ Anglican Church, see photos

Shrove Tuesday – more commonly known as Pancake Tuesday – was celebrated at the Christ Anglican Church Hall in Dresden this evening (Mar. 4.)

The hall was packed with people from the community, who wanted to take part in the annual event.

Reverend John Maroney said the support at the dinner was great, as it is for other functions held at the church.

“Here it is incredible,” he said. “There are other pancake suppers going on at the same time but I think we already have over 100 people.”

Maroney said “Pancake Tuesday” is historically the last big meal before lent.

“Right before lent you were suppose to scour the house and get everything such as lard, fat and make one last real fatty meal because you are suppose to give up things that you like such as sugar,” he said. “It’s like the last big indulgence before the days of lent when you are suppose to give something up. That’s where the paczkis come from.”
