Some members of the Wallaceburg Tartans football team are doing some fundraising for one of their biggest fans and fellow athletes.

Bev Thomas is one of three people from Chatham-Kent and the lone Wallaceburg representative on Team Ontario – who will be competing in the Special Olympics in Vancouver from July 6-13.

Thomas will be competing in 5-pin bowling.

Anthony Vandevenne and Tristan Bentley, both in Grade 12 at WDSS, decided to organize a spaghetti dinner fundraiser with the proceeds going towards Thomas’s trip out west.

“We have a leadership project and Miss (Janine) Day asked us to do something in a way where we are leading our community and to do something good for our community,” Vandevenne said. “We knew Bev was going to the Olympics for bowling so we thought we’d give her a hand in paying for that, so we organized this spaghetti dinner.”

Bentley said it is the least they can do.

“We appreciate all her support,” he said.

Thomas is a proud supporter of the Wallaceburg Tartans football teams, and attends all of their home games.

The fundraising dinner will be held at Thomas’ church – the Christian Reform Church in Wallaceburg – from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursday, April 3.

Cost is $10 per ticket, and they can be picked up at the church, the high school or Community Living Wallaceburg.
