Emotion vs. Logic

Power of Words

From the Pastor’s Pen – By Brian Horrobin

Do you ever find yourself trying to solve an issue with someone using logic?

If so, you may want to consider the wise words of Dale Carnegie, who said, “When dealing with people, remember you are not dealing with creatures of logic, but creatures of emotion.”

Just because something makes sense does not mean that it will be automatically received. The person you are dealing with needs to know that you care about them, and that you aren’t just interested in winning an argument.

In John chapter 8 Jesus dealt with a woman caught in the act of adultery and surprised her with the way he dealt with her situation. She already knew she was guilty. One more long, bony finger of accusation pointing at her wouldn’t help make her sin go away. Instead, He showed compassion and forgave her. He told her to go and sin no more. He skipped using the Pharisees’ logic and instead remembered that this was a broken woman of emotion. She was now free to make a fresh start and move away from a life of sin.

What Jesus did for this woman He will also do for you.

Let’s treat others the way He treats us.
