From The Pastor’s Pen – By Brian Horrobin
There are a lot of things in life that we cannot change, that we have no control over, but attitude is not one of them.
You can always choose your attitude.
Psychiatrist and Holocaust survivor, Victor Frankl, said the following about freedom as it relates to attitude: “Everything can be taken from a person but one thing: the last of the human freedoms – to choose one’s attitude in any given set of circumstances, to choose one’s own way.”
In the cardio room at Power Fitness Gym is a large banner with a compelling quote about attitude.
The owners put it there to motivate people to exercise their right to choose to get fitter and not make excuses to be lazy.
The apostle Paul highlighted the attitude of Jesus as one which we should emulate, because it underscores the incredible humility our Saviour had in living His life for others.
Look at what it says in Philippians 2:5-8: “Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus, who, being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God, but made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men. And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross.”
Victor Frankl endured deplorable treatment in the Nazi concentration camps of Hitler’s Germany because he chose to face his hopeless situation with a Christ-like attitude.
Surely, we can learn from his courageous example and also see results in the situations we find ourselves facing, whatever they may be, because we can choose our attitude.
Let’s put that into practice, shall we?
