Small biz workshop offered

Chatham-Kent is home to many thriving small businesses, whose owners are preparing to move on to retirement or other endeavours. The Chatham-Kent Business Ventures Program (BVP), Small Business Centre and Scotia Bank are working together to help businesses prepare for succession by hosting “The Right Lens: Viewing your business from a buyer’s perspective”—a workshop focused on helping small business owners develop a more realistic and effective plan for their future and their business’.

“The Right Lens” will feature a four-person panel: an investor, realtor, financial consultant, and a business valuator. The panel will discuss what prospective business investors and buyers are looking for when they consider taking over or investing in an existing venture. Workshop participants will walk away with steps to consider as they plan for the future, and contacts for further guidance.

Although business succession is the focus of the event, the workshop is geared toward all small business owners. A primary message organizers wish to stress is that preparing a business to attract investors and potential buyers can begin at conception, and ought to be considered long before the owner decides to sell or expand.

The workshop is being funded by the Ontario Ministry of Citizenship and Immigration as a part of its Municipal Immigrant Information Online (MIIO) funding that supports Chatham-Kent’s Resident Attraction and Retention efforts.
