Morris Lee Kiyoshk, 27, has been acquitted of attempted murder, in connection with the 2012 beating of a Wallaceburg cab driver.

Reports say there was no evidence linking Kiyoshk to the crime scene, nor did the Crown provide proof beyond a reasonable doubt.

The case was decided in a Superior court room in Sarnia earlier today (Apr. 2.)

During the early morning hours of July 8, 2012, sixty-nine year old John Chatel from Wallaceburg was found in his cab on Squirrel Island, Walpole Island with life threatening injuries.

Chatel did recover, was released from hospital and was sent home.

Kiyoshk was arrested on the morning of October 15, 2012.

He was arrested at Sarnia Jail where he was already in custody on unrelated criminal matters.

He had been charged with attempted murder, kidnapping, robbery, aggravated assault, forcible confinement and four counts of failing to comply to a probation order.

We’ll look to provide a follow-up to this story.
