$1,000 art scholarship up for grabs

The Thames Art Gallery has announced that for the fourth year, a $1,000 scholarship award is being offered to a graduating student attending a secondary school in Chatham-Kent who intends to further their education in the visual arts.

Municipal officials say this scholarship is donated by Cathy Van Raay-Myers.

To be considered for the scholarship, interested candidates must be in their graduating year of high school and must be attending a post-secondary program in an arts-related discipline in the fall.

Students who intend to study any of the following programs, but not limited to, are eligible for the Thames Art Gallery Scholarship Award: visual arts, fine arts, film, photography, printmaking, animation, digital media, graphic design, and craft.

The submission deadline is June 2, 2024.

Applicants must submit a portfolio of six to eight artworks and be available for an interview with the Thames Art Gallery curatorial staff.

Interviews will take place from June 5 to June 7, 2024.

The recipient of the Scholarship Award will be announced at the reception of “Here I Am: Student Exhibition 2024” at the Thames Art Gallery on June 21, 2024 at 8 p.m.

The Thames Art Gallery is thrilled to be able to host this previously online exhibition celebrating the curiosity, passion, technique of emerging young creatives in high school in the gallery from June 14 to August 11, 2024.
