A local Rotarian and former president was recognized by the Dresden Rotary Club last night at their annual banquet.

Gary Edwards, who own Dresden Foodland along with his wife Dina, was recognized as this years Paul Harris Fellow recipient.

“This is a great honour,” Edwards told the crowd at the Dresden Arena.

Edwards went on to thank his wife and children for their support and the entire community for their commitment to one another.

The venue was packed for the 28th annual spring banquet.

Rose Northcott, president of the Dresden Rotary, said a lot of businesses helped out with the silent auction by donating items.

“People not only from here… but from Chatham, Wallaceburg, farmers who bring seed in,” she said. “It’s awesome, we cannot express enough, without the community we would not be surviving.”

Northcott said the community always comes together to support their club.

“It’s the support of the community… we cannot say it enough,” she said. “If it wasn’t for the support of our community, we would not survive. We asked, and they come.”

Northcott added many members of neighbouring Rotary Clubs were in attendance including Wallaceburg, Chatham Sunrise, Tilbury and more.

Burns Restaurant and Catering provided the dinner for the evening, while Theatre Kent’s Cabaret Voltaire provided the entertainment.
