Dresden Arena packed for fish fry, see photos

The floor in the Dresden Arena was jam-packed, as three local groups held their annual Good Friday fish fry.

Mike Depauw, president of Dresden Minor Hockey, said this has been a great event the past few years.

“It’s growing every year,” he said. “A lot of people on Good Friday want to have a fish dinner. There are three clubs that are contributing right now, Dresden Minor Hockey, Dresden Kinsmen Club and the Dresden Agricultural Society.”

Depauw said the proceeds are split amongst the three clubs.

“We’re all working here and putting on a successful event,” he said. “We had hoped for between 400 and 500 people, and we are at about 560. It’s a beautiful day out and everybody wanted to come out and get some fish today.”

Depauw said the people in attendance were great.

“Sometimes when you’re cooking fish it takes a little longer, fries take a little longer but nobody was unhappy waiting, they were all looking forward to their second or third plate,” he said. “I think everybody is going home full. That’s what they came for and they’re getting what they came for.”

Depauw added when the money is all counted up, it should be a good profit for each group.

“We were hoping for a profit of about $9,000 to $10,000 between the three clubs,” he said. “That gives each club about $3,000 to put back into the community.”
