The Our Lady of Help of Christians Contemporary Choir is selling some CDs in support of the local food banks.

Wallaceburg resident Terry Campbell, the director for the choir, said their group gathered at the Our Lady of Help Church in Wallaceburg back in the fall and recorded the album, which is called “Living In Love.”

“We sing every week at church and we’ve been doing this for 35 years,” Campbell said. “We’ve already sold $1,200 worth of CDs… all the proceeds are going towards the local food banks.”

Campbell said the choir is comprised of all Wallaceburg and area residents.

She said about 10 years ago their choir released an album called “Raising The Roof”, which sold over 1,000 CDs and 500 cassette tapes.

With the success of their first album and her pending retirement from the choir, Campbell said she wanted to do one last project.

“We had a lot of success with the first album, so we figured we’d give it another try,” she said.

Local musicians Adam Emerson and Jeff Black came to the church to record the LIVE album, which includes 19 tracks.

“It’s contemporary music, with guitars and bongos,” she said.

Campbell said they chose to donate to the food bank, as they know there is a need in the community.

“There are so many people that could use some help,” she said.

Campbell said one of the members of the choir John deBakker, passed away only a few days after getting the chance to listen to the album with her and her husband Mike.

“We’re grateful that we had the chance to listen to the album with him,” Campbell said.

The entire choir includes the following people: Charlene DaCosta, Barb Wysman, Michelle Jardine, Jerome Caron, John deBakker, Robert Vandevelde, John Wysman, Cheryl Bechard, Maureen Davis, Carmen Myers, Janet Myers, Katie Campbell-Bechard, Mike Campbell, Vivian Jardine, Deodete Santos, Patricia Caron, Jeanne MacLeod, Terry Campbell, Adam Campbell, Adam Allear and Filamena Palimaka.

    • Lyrics To Hallelujah by Kelly Mooney
Adapted to the music of Leonard Cohen’s Hallelujah

A crown of thorns placed on His head
He knew that He would soon be dead
He said did you forget me Father did you?
They nailed Him to a wooden cross
Soon all the world would feel the loss
Of Christ the King before His Hallelujah

      Hallelujah x4

He hung His head and prepared to die
Then lifted His face up to the sky
Said I am coming home now Father to you
A reed which held His final sip
Was gently lifted to his lips
He drank His last and gave His soul to glory

      Hallelujah x4

The soldier who had used his sword
To pierce the body of our Lord
Said truly this is Jesus Christ our Savior
He looked with fear upon his sword
Then turned to face his Christ and Lord
Fell to his knees crying Hallelujah

      Hallelujah x4

Took from his head the thorny crown
And wrapped him in a linen gown
And laid him down to rest inside the tomb
The holes in his hands, his feet and side
Now in our hearts we know he died
To save us from ourselves oh hallelujah

      Hallelujah x4

Three days went by again they came
To move the stone to bless the slain
With oil and spice anointing hallelujah
But as they went to move the stone
They saw that they were not alone
But Jesus Christ has risen Hallelujah

      Hallelujah x4
      Hallelujah x4
