Two killed in crash on Hwy. 401

opp carChatham-Kent Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers are continuing their investigation into a collision which occurred on Highway 401 near Mull Road on May 10, 2014, just before 2:30 p.m.

Chatham-Kent OPP are confirming that the two occupants of the eastbound car were pronounced dead at the scene.

The male driver of the tractor trailer was transported to hospital.

He is listed in stable condition.

The westbound lanes in that area have been reopened.

The eastbound lanes remained closed for an undetermined amount of time.

The investigation is continuing.

Further information will be released as it becomes available.

OPP officials say for reasons unknown at this time, a tractor trailer travelling westbound on Highway 401 left the roadway, crossed the centre median and entered the eastbound lanes, striking an eastbound car.

Chatham-Kent Emergency Medical Services (EMS) and Harwich North Volunteer Fire Department responded to the crash.
