Betty Jane Blackbird, a resident of Walpole Island First Nation, passed away peacefully with her family at her side on Wednesday, May 14, 2014 at the age of 87.
Betty is the daughter of the late Ida Nahdee and Simeon Blackbird.
Beloved wife of the late Franklin C. Shipman.
Loving mother of Delwood, George, Bernadette, Dexter, Samuel, Jan (Nannette), Marna (Paul), Frank and the late Beverly, Dwain and Judy Valerie.
Special caregiver and grandson Cheyenne. Dear grandmother and great grandmother to 238 grandchildren.
Sister of Ida Mae, Keitha, Sylvia, William, Eliza, Marina, Verena, Veronica and the late Francis and Simeon Jr.
The family received relatives and friends at Betty’s home, 236 Austin Road on Walpole Island on Thursday and Friday.
The funeral was celebrated at Walpole Island Arena on Saturday, May 17 at 2 PM.
Interment followed at Highbanks Cemetery.
