‘Measure twice, cut once’

Someone should have told my wife when we got married that she was not getting a handyman.

Recently, I purchased some pine planks to make slats for supporting my sons’ bunk beds.

I had a number of projects on that day so I hurried the measurement, basically eye-balling the bed’s width where the slats would be placed.

I think you already know where I’m going with this.

After getting my neighbour to cut the planks with his big power saw I proudly went about putting these boards in place.

Much to my dismay I had cut them too short.

I had to go back to the store and purchase more wood and do the job all over again.

Contractors have a wise saying that they use, and it is this: “Measure twice, cut once.”

It’s all about planning.

Proverbs 24:27 says, “Finish your outdoor work and get your fields ready; after that, build your house.”

In other words, prioritize your time and do the things first that are most important, then move to the next thing on your list.

Sometimes slowing down and doing it right the first time alleviates the pain of having to do something all over again.

Remember: measure twice, cut once.
