Handgun wielding Wallaceburg man arrested

The Chatham-Kent police have arrested a man in connection with a domestic disturbance in Chatham Township.

On May 20, 2014 the man was released from custody with several conditions, including a curfew, non-association with a specific woman and weapon prohibition.

On May 24, 2014 the man attended the woman’s residence in possession of a handgun and a verbal argument began.

During the argument, the man began throwing items on the floor causing damage.

The man assaulted the woman, however she was able to flee the residence and call for help.

The woman sustained minor injuries.

Just before 8:00 a.m. yesterday morning, with the assistance of the Critical Incident Response Team, the man was located hiding inside the residence.

The man was arrested without incident and the handgun was seized.

The 29-year-old Wallaceburg man has been charged with overcoming resistance to choking, unauthorized possession of a firearm, mischief under $5000, failing to comply with a prohibition order, two counts of assault and four counts of failing to comply.

He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.
