The 4th annual Relay For Life event is taking place in Wallaceburg, starting tonight at around 7 p.m. and running until 7 p.m. tomorrow morning.

Dinner will start being served at 5:30 p.m.

The fundraising goal this year is $44,000, with proceeds going towards the Canadian Cancer Society.

As in previous years, the event will be taking place on the back campus of Wallaceburg District Secondary School.

“Everyone is going to be coming together again to celebrate, remember and fight back,” said Rachel MacLeod, fundraising coordinator. “For us goals are in respect to how many people can we get involved in the event, how many people can we reach out to, can we touch, how many luminaries can around the track, how many cancer survivours are walking in a survivours victory lap.”

MacLeod said past Relay events in Wallaceburg have been quite successful.

“We really try to emphasize what the community has to offer and involve that in part of our ceremonies,” she said. “When it comes to looking at new, we have a lot of great committee members on board with a lot of great ideas, ready to move forward. We’re going to be doing something a little bit different with our ceremonies this year. We hope to keep everyone busy and engaged for 12 hours.”
