A Wallaceburg native lives only eight minutes outside of Angus, Ontario – the site where a category EF2 tornado touched down yesterday.
“I was getting gas at a gas station and an OPP officer was getting gas too,” said Todd Robinson, a Wallaceburg District Secondary School graduate. “His radio was going nuts. He told me if I was going to Angus… don’t.”
Environment Canada stated the twister touched down at 5:20 p.m. in Angus and tracked to Barrie by 5:35 p.m.
Wind speeds were estimated between 200 to 220 km/h. They said there was significant damage to to 85 homes, 10 homes had the roofs removed, many trees were down and a truck was flipped on its side.
Robinson said he was driving home when the tornado hit.
“We only got some high winds and a ridiculous amount of rain where I was,” Robinson said about his home in Alliston. “Where I live compared to Angus, it would be like me living near Baldoon Golf Course and the tornado coming through Wallaceburg.”
Robinson said the clouds were “very eerie looking.”
He added he knows a couple of people who live in the subdivision where the most damage was caused in Angus and fortunately no one was injured.
Environment Canada says this is the third tornado of the season.
