Trail extension being proposed for Mitchell’s Bay

CK Mitchell's Bay South Lake Shore Trail

The nature trail in Mitchell’s Bay is set to get extended, pending approval from council.

Staff is recommending the development of a multi-use trail that would run north of Mitchell’s Bay Marine Park on the ARTA Dyke and along the shoreline of Lake St. Clair to Bass Haven, to include wetland trails and bridges.

They are recommending the project be single sourced to Ontario NativeScape in the amount of $171,640, funded by the Trails Lifecycle budget.

A staff report states that the proposed Mitchell’s Bay North Lakeshore Nature Trail would be the third trail development project in the community, which when Phase 3 is completed will measure 4.3 kilometres in length.

Staff is also recommending that the Municiplaity enter into a land use agreement with Dr. Hugh Allen and Greg Cadotte, whose land will be included on the trail.

The total cost of the project is $261,640.

The remaining funding would be provided by way of partnership with the Ontario NativeScape (a Division of the Rural Lambton Stewardship Network) who would be coordinating the project, Tallgrass Ontario, Friends
of St. Clair and the Municipal Greening Partnership.

Council will vote on the recommendations at Monday’s (July 14) combined regular and planning meeting at the Civic Centre.
