Are you ready to face death?

One of the most thrilling aspects of watching sports is when a close game has to go to an overtime period for the outcome to be decided.

Although there are a few exceptions, depending on the sport, most sports have a “sudden death” format to decide who wins.

So, at the end of regulation play teams get a pep talk from their coach and are encouraged to put forth a stronger effort in order to come out on top.

There is no room for error, since the first goal scored will mean triumph for the team scoring it and instant doom for the team giving it up.

There are no extra minutes of playing allowed for the losing team to try to make up the difference.

Once a goal is scored, that’s it, hence the whole concept of “sudden death.”

Of course, in life the concept of sudden death is similar, except that the severity of the situation is much more pronounced.

I received a phone call one time from a frantic father whose teenage son had discovered a neighbour dead in his kitchen.

The young man had gone over to do some chores for the elderly farmer, as was his usual custom, and had the surprise of his life when he got there.

There was no warning of this whatsoever.

The two had visited two days prior but everything was just fine.

Sometimes things can happen so suddenly.

Life can be rolling along as if everything will stay the same and then “sudden death” occurs.

Are you rolling along in life today thinking everything will just be the same as it always is?

Someone once said that nothing is guaranteed except death and taxes.

Unless you procrastinated, you should have had the taxes part dealt with by April 30th.

However, what about death?

Is that something you are ready to face?

Why not speak to someone today about this before you end up facing sudden death!
