Wallaceburg’s answer for appliances and electronics

Tom and Al’s in Wallaceburg is a one-stop shop for all your appliance or electronics needs.

We caught up with Shawn Moore, manager of Tom and Al’s, who filled us in with the vast amount of quality options they have available.

Electronics

“LG is the first to the market this year with the NoLED screen,” Moore said. “It has the best contrast on the market right now. The TV itself is so thin they actually have to curve it and build a plastic frame around it so it doesn’t fold. We’ve got ultra-HD on the floor, increasing the pixel density from 1080 to 2160. It makes a sharper picture, a clearer picture.”

Audio equipment

“Primarily everything we carry is for LG,” Moore said. “Sharp is only building 60-inch TVs and bigger now, we still carry it but it is a smaller part of the market. LG we carry sound bars, sound plates, true audio systems with five speakers. It has been a great line for us. Service issues? We don’t have any on these things that are not electrical caused by storms and that kind of stuff. Surge protectors are still the best investment anybody can make.”

Smart TVs and service

“The new smart TVs, the WebOS by LG is very simple to walk through,” Moore said. “We’ve been able to talk customers through on the phone to set everything up. We never leave a customer hanging, scratching their head or trying to figure out how to run it. If they are having issues after we deliver it and get it setup, we come back out to the house, walk them through it. Andy (Fields) writes out directions, leaves them with them and we’re always here if they need somebody to give them a hand.”

Laundry

“Simply, we carry all the major brands for refrigeration, cooking, dish and laundry,” Moore said. “Both in front load, high efficiency top load and traditional top load with the agitators.

Moore added: “We have a new line coming in of traditional top load made by Speed Queen. Right out of the box it is going to have a 3-year parts and labour warranty. It’s energy efficient, not nearly as high as the high efficiency ones, it kind of blends the best of both worlds in what has turned into be a work horse. Perfect for mechanics, farmers, doing heavy, dirty clothes, coveralls, or somebody that is on well water… these machines are bulletproof. They cost a little bit more, but you have a three-year parts and labour warranty on them, five years on the transmission and 10-years on the tub. We’re looking forward to getting them in… it gives us one other thing to offer people.”

Moore said well water is really tough on washing machines.

“I know some folks get religiously three years out of a machine and they’re back in because the seals are shot, the sulphur content is too high and the machine just can’t do it,” he said. “These machines that we have coming in should help.”

Soap

“It’s a high efficiency soap that we carry,” he said. “It’s highly concentrated, completely phosphate free. In the six years we’ve been carrying it now, we’ve had absolutely no allergic reactions to it, even from people that have had one from every other soap on the market.”

Moore added: “It costs about $39.95 for a bottle, but that bottle does 196 loads. We also encourage people to bring that empty bottle in, we will re-fill it from the big bottle station we have here for $5 less. Just to encourage them to recycle that bottle and use it as much as they can before buying a new one and adding to the waste fill.”

“A quality designed soap from top to bottom for the high efficiency machines will help eliminate the odour, the little bit of maintenance to keep them clean. It makes it that much easier. You’re using 15 ml instead of a full cup. There is enough soap to do your laundry, but the residue it rinses clean and it keeps your machine cleaner and it’s a lot better for the environment.”

Fridges

“As far as refrigeration, we have just about every size covered,” Moore said. “From a 15-cubic foot for the trailer, up to a 30 cubic foot for your new house. We work with a lot of the cabinet guys around here too. We’ve give them the cut out drawings for what they bought, the lay out, and everything they need to know for installation for each piece. We’re good with working with them. We sit down and put some packages together, give you some ideas for a starting point and go from there.”

Other items

“We carry the Electrolux brand of the central vac’s,” Moore said. “We carry a full line of paintings, pictures and accessories in the store. We carry pillows, sheets, mattress protectors. All the little things that you may forget you need. You don’t have to leave here and go to another store to get mattress protector or a set of sheets for your new bed, we have them here.”
