From The Pastor’s Pen – By Brian Horrobin
Everyone needs a word of encouragement from time to time because life can be hard and it can bring you down.
Just reading the daily news headlines is enough to make any heart heavy.
A couple of months ago I was going through a tough patch.
A couple of close friends had their jobs terminated suddenly and on top of that I was also dealing with some conflict in my own life with people who are near and dear to me.
It felt like I was dragging around a big, heavy bag that slowed my step and was robbing me of joy.
However, about that time I also received some unexpected encouragement.
One person, someone I know from out of town, sent me a beautiful card in the mail with such powerful words of blessing!
Then, shortly after that, I found a Facebook message from someone telling me they had a burden to pray for me.
Finally, I received what was termed a “courtesy call” from someone associated with the friends who lost their jobs.
He was concerned about how I was handling this unfortunate news and if there was anything I needed.
Wow!
You talk about a lift!
Proverbs 15:13 says, “A happy heart makes the face cheerful, but heartache crushes the spirit.”
These three gestures of encouragement indeed made me cheerful, all at a time when things seemed so gloomy and despairing. Maybe there is someone in your circle of influence who cheerful, all at a time when things seemed so gloomy and despairing.
Maybe there is someone in your circle of influence who could use a lift.
If so, pick up the phone and call them, or your pen and drop them a good old-fashioned note in the mail.
Your encouragement may be exactly what this person needs in their time of discouragement.
