Attempted murder charges laid after taxi driver attacked

On Monday July 28, 2014 just before 6:00 PM a local cab company dispatched a cab to the area of Wellington Street and Christina Street.

Once there the taxi driver picked up the customer, a 21 year old Sarnia woman.

The woman told the taxi driver she was going to an address on Blackwell Road.

Once they arrived on Blackwell Road the woman told the driver she did not believe they were at the proper location and started giving him directions in an apparent attempt to locate the proper address. At one point the taxi came to a stop and the woman suddenly attacked the driver with a knife slicing at the driver’s throat. The attack continued and the driver was able to get out of the cab where the attack continued.

The woman then grabbed the keys from the driver and got into the taxi and fled the area.

A citizen driving by stopped and assisted the driver and called 911.

The woman drove to the area of Mandaumin Side Road and Rokeby Line where she abandoned the taxi.

Police received a call regarding a suspicious person in that area and attended. The woman was located by police and arrested without incident.

The male taxi driver required surgery for injuries to his neck and hands

The woman is charged with Attempt Murder, Aggravated Assault, Theft and Drive While Disqualified.

She is being held pending a bail hearing.
