With each summer season brings the challenge of keeping youth stimulated both mentally and physically.

The Chatham-Kent Community Health Centres and Bkejwanong Youth Facility have stepped up to the plate (or the centre circle in this case) and are geared up for their Physical Culture – Lacrosse Program (PCLP).

In partnership with Iroquois Lacrosse Program, the PCLP empowers youth to learn, develop, and master various aspects of lacrosse. Funded by the Women’s Leadership Council of United Way Chatham-Kent, the PCLP serves as an expanded version of the original Physical Culture program.

What distinguishes the PCLP from other physical activity programs is its incorporation of the tradition, history and culture of lacrosse. Given the game’s First Nations Iroquois provenance, integrating the aforementioned education into the program was essential.

The PCLP is a week-long, gratuitous program that is available to both female and male youth aged 6-18 years. Each day brings a new itinerary that exposes youth to the different facets of the program. The PCLP is already showing much promise as 100 eager youth have been registered.

This is a true testament to the popularity and success of the introductory Physical Culture program.

The event is running from Monday, August 11 – Friday, August 15 at the Walpole Island Sports Complex.
