Free Corn Day Brings a New Flavour to the Dresden Raceway

Although the summer months are coming to a close, that hasn’t stopped people from attending and participating in the many fun activities at The Dresden Raceway. Today featured many giveaways as one hundred and fifty dozen corn was given out to the public to try its local, delicious and fresh taste.

Members of the Dresden Agricultural Society worked hard to ensure that the corn was cooked to its best. Jim Paraskevopoulos, owner of a local resturant for 27 years and part of the Dresden Agricultural Society said the free corn has went very well for today. “The Corn today has went really good,” he said. “It was all given from a local supplier. The Agricultural Society that took over from Windsor raceway did this all as an appreciation back to the community”. Paraskevopoulos said that after helping the Windsor Raceway when the industry was down by fundraising and being involved with the food venues has lead him to being a part of working with the Dresden agricultural Society.

Pat Snelgrove, a Dresden Raceway volunteer this summer said she feels the corn giveaways made an impact on why its important to give back to the community. “I think everyone was very happy to come and eat the new corn. I think it was a really good event. We had a a nice crowd today and we’re thrilled to have them”.

Snelgrove said she enjoys volunteering because of the response from the public. “I think just seeing all the people come out and enjoy themselves here. Everyone is very friendly and you can talk to them about the horses and the community and its just a really nice atmosphere to be involved in”.

Many also participated in the giveaways provided by the Raceway including Large little Caesars Pizza’s and betting vouchers. The Brick also donated various giveaways including chair sets and inflatables.

Next Sunday features Dresden Derby Day. People are encouraged to wear cool, fancy hats to the raceway. Post time is at 1:oo p.m
