Downtown mural going back up

The downtown Wallaceburg mural has been refurbished and is being put back up today.

A crew of volunteers were outside at the corner of Duncan and James Streets putting up the mural of the old SS Superior.

Roger VanBellinghen, one of the volunteers, said the mural was refurbished at the Wallaceburg and District Museum

“They did it in the pull barn in the back,” he said. “We took it down in panels and now we’re putting them back up.”

Lance Cross and his wife Jocylin were the artists who re-painted the mural.

VanBellinghen said the SS Superior used to come right through Wallaceburg.

“It would dock on the Sydenham River at the old government docks, right behind the Kent House,” he said.

VanBellinghen said the mural was originally painted in the 1970s and has been refurbished a number of times before.

VanBellinghen added the Museum is still looking for donations for the project, as they are planning on adding a casing around the mural in the future.

Call the Museum to inquire about donating at 519-627-8962.
