After spending some time at home, Dresden Minor hockey product TJ Brodie has headed back out West.

The 24-year-old Brodie told the Sydenham Current in a recent interview that he is looking forward to the upcoming season, his fifth in the NHL with the Calgary Flames.

“It will give me a chance to skate and work out with the guys for a couple of weeks before camp actually takes of,” he said. “I’m looking forward to it, it should be an exciting season.”

Brodie added: “Every year is going to be different, so you never really know what to expect but I’m looking forward to getting it started.”

The Flames will hope to bounce back this year, after a dismal season, which left them with the second worst record in the Western Conference of the National Hockey League.

However, Brodie enjoyed a break-out year.

He recorded four goals and 27 assists, good for 31 points in 81 games as a regular on the Flames’ blueline.

He also finished the year with a zero plus/minus rating.

Brodie and the Flames open their season on Wednesday, Oct. 8 at home against Vancouver.

Brodie has been busy this summer preparing for a fundraiser as well.

He has been selling skate guards in support of Cystic Fibrosis and organ donation awareness.

The cost of the skate guards are $20.

While Brodie had made some rounds in Dresden, for anyone interested in purchasing the guards in the community of Wallaceburg, local resident Lindsay Jacques will be making arrangements and will have some of the guards on Tuesday, Sept. 9.
