Downtown Wallaceburg has gotten an upgrade.

As part of Chatham-Kent’s lifecycle program, part of the downtown sidewalks have been replaced.

Nelson Cavacas, manager of infrastructure and development engineering, said 220 metres of the “ribbon” type sidewalk was installed in the downtown core, starting last week and wrapping up this week.

“We have had issues with the brick setting and causing trip hazards,” Cavacas said. “We had been doing spot repairs to soften the trip edges… but this is now a more permanent fix.”

Cavacas said the Municipality consulted with the Wallaceburg Business Improvement Association and other stakeholders to help choose a style and colour for the sidewalk.

“It really goes well with the concrete,” he said.

Cavacas said a $600,000 budget was allotted to these type of life-cycle projects, however multiple projects have been and are still yet to be completed this year.
