Three different shows by Theatre Kent

Theatre Kent is offering local theatre goers the opportunity to see three different shows for the low price of $39 through its subscription series, but only until November 6.

The community theatre group is kicking off its 2014/15 season with the hit musical Oliver! by Lionel Bart.
The show brings together some of Charles Dickens’ most beloved characters, including Oliver Twist, The Artful Dodger, Fagin, the kindly Nancy and Bill Sykes, “a villain in his prime.”

The musical opens November 6, and also runs November 7, 8, 14 and 15 at 8 p.m. A 1 p.m. matinee will run on November 15 as well.

Oliver! is being directed by Karen Robinet and features a large cast of actors from Chatham-Kent, as well as Windsor-Essex.

The second show in Theatre Kent’s subscription series is Of Mice And Men by John Steinbeck.

The timeless tale of loneliness, friendship, hope and the evils of power is being directed by Norm McLeod, whose production of Doubt won last year’s Theatre Ontario Festival. Of Mice And Men will run from February 5 to 7 at 8 p.m.

The final offering in the subscription series is Steel Magnolias by Robert Harling and will run from May 7 to 9. The show is being directed by JC Wright who says one line from the play sets the tone: “Well, you know what they say: If you don’t have anything nice to say about anybody, come sit by me”

Theatre patrons can purchase a subscription series ticket that entitles them to see all three plays at a cost of $39, which represents a savings of $15 over the individual ticket prices.

In addition to its three-show subscription series, Theatre Kent is also presenting a family holiday show, The Lion, The Witch And The Wardrobe, which is being directed by Ryan Pickering.

The play tells the story of Lucy, Edmund, Susan and Peter as they travel the magical world of Narnia and runs December 11, 12 and 13.

Tickets for that show are sold outside of the subscription series at the family-friendly price of $10 each, and will be performed at 7 p.m. each evening.

All four shows will be presented at the Kiwanis Theatre. Subscription series tickets are available through the Cultural Centre box office in person, or by telephoning 519-354-8338. Individual tickets for all four shows are also available online at www.cktickets.com.
