Chatham-Kent Crime Stoppers is inviting families to attend the Children’s Safety Expo, a free community event designed to help children and parents learn about community safety through a variety of fun hands-on activities, educational displays, and emergency services demonstrations.
The event will take place on Saturday, September 12, 2026, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the St. Clair College Chatham Campus, located at 1001 Grand Avenue West, Chatham.
“We are very excited for this year’s Children’s Safety Expo as it is a great opportunity for families to come out and learn about ways to stay safe at home, at school, and in the community,” said Erica McIntosh, Coordinator at Chatham-Kent Crime Stoppers. “Through live demonstrations, hands-on activities, and conversations with local first responders and safety professionals, children and parents will gain practical knowledge and confidence to help keep themselves and their communities safe.”
One of the featured attractions is the Kids Fingerprinting Clinic, presented by Chatham-Kent Crime Stoppers. Families will receive a free digital child identification record that can be safely stored and used should a child ever go missing. The identification package provides valuable information that can assist emergency responders during critical situations.
“The finger print clinic provides the digital record that families can keep and it’s important for people to know that Crime Stoppers or the police does not store any personal information or keep any of the fingerprint records from this event. This is entirely for parents to have available with them should they ever need it,” said McIntosh.
Families are also encouraged to register through the CK Crime Stoppers website for the free Car Seat Clinic, where certified professionals will provide free inspections and installation tips to help ensure children’s car seats are installed correctly. The clinic is available for the first 12 families who register, making early online registration at www.ckcrimestoppers.ca highly recommended.
Visitors will also have the opportunity to experience live demonstrations throughout the day, including fire extinguisher demonstrations, the Jaws of Life vehicle rescue, a rollover crash simulator, and a K9 agility demonstration.
In addition to the demonstrations, attendees can explore a variety of emergency response vehicles and equipment, including police cruisers, ATVs, fire trucks, an ambulance, a police boat, an armoured tank, and a mobile command trailer. Representatives from the Chatham-Kent Police Service, Chatham-Kent Fire Department, Ontario Provincial Police, Chatham-Kent EMS, Municipal Public Safety Services, and Windsor Police Service will be on hand to answer questions and speak with families.
Admission to the Children’s Safety Expo is free, making it an opportunity for families to spend an educational day together while learning valuable safety information.
