Dresden and Wallaceburg schools go GREEN

Three Chatham-Kent (CK) schools were awarded a top 5 BLOOM rating for their entries into the G.R.E.E.N. Schools Competition, formerly known as ‘Schools in Bloom’.

All competitors received a native Carolinian Tulip Tree to further green their schoolyards.

A.A. Wright Public School, and Wallaceburg District Secondary School in Wallaceburg and Lambton Kent Composite School in Dresden additionally won a $100 gift certificate for their exceptional 5 BLOOM entries. These prizes are compliments of Ross’ Nurserymen in Chatham, All Seasons Nursery and Flowers in Wallaceburg, and Sherry’s Perennials in Cedar Springs.

Competitors are evaluated on a school tour and written submissions that demonstrate their efforts within the following categories:

G – Greening & Gardening in Schoolyard

R – Recycling & Conservation Activities

E – Educational Link to the Environment & Outdoors

E – Engagement of Staff & Students in Community

N – Neat & Tidy Efforts

If you would like to enter your school for the 2014/2015 school year, just let us know what great things you’ve got going on in the five G.R.E.E.N. Schools judging criteria! The deadline for submissions is May15, 2015.
