As part of our Crime Prevention Week initiatives, the Chatham-Kent Police Service would like to announce a Community Safety Plan forum that will bring together leaders in our community to discuss issues of Safety and Well-Being. On Thursday November 13th, 2014 discussions will take place around common issues that affect a variety of sectors.

Sgt Jim Lynds, Community Mobilization Coordinator for the Service, states “Police realize that we cannot arrest our way out of social issues, however working together we can make a difference in our community safety and well-being. The Chatham-Kent Police Service believes in and has a long history of working with various community groups to make Chatham-Kent the safest community in Ontario. Over the past year the Chatham-Kent Police Service continued its commitment to our community safety and well-being through the development of our Community Mobilization Strategy.”

Through the Chatham-Kent Police Service Community Mobilization Strategy, “Safe Communities are places where residents are free of Crime and free from the fear of victimization. However, creating community safety and wellbeing is much broader than crime prevention alone; it involves a wide range of social and economic factors. Safe Communities are communities where residents are socially engaged and connected. They are communities where residents are healthy. They are communities where residents can access the economic opportunities and social supports they need to thrive. Above all else, they have the capacity to proactively address community safety issues as they emerge. They are, in a word resilient.”

“The Chatham-Kent Police Service is proud to partner with our citizens and community groups to help make our community safe and resilient, and meet the challenges of the future” says Chief Dennis Poole. “We are looking forward to the forum, and more importantly, to the progressive work that will come out of it.”
