Kings double up Lakers

The Dresden Kings took care of home ice tonight in the ongoing Highway 78 series with the Wallaceburg Lakers.

In a close contest, the Kings won 2-1.

Justin Delgado scored at the 4-minute mark of the first period to put the Kings on the board, with assists going to Derrick VanEvery and Wade Esselment.

Alex Ritchie tied things up for the Lakers with a goal at the 14:40 mark, an assist went to Mike Kindrachuk.

It didn’t take the Kings long to take back the lead.

David Vergeer scored at the 18:13 mark of the second period, with assists going to Macks Holmes and Kevin Ritzer.

This proved to be the gamer winner.

Dresden improved their record to 11-9-2-0 on the season, good for 24 points on the year. That put them in a three-way tie for fourth place with Blenheim and Wheatley in the Great Lakes Junior ‘C’ Hockey League.

Wallaceburg drops to 5-12-0-3 on the year, placing them in eighth place in the league.

After the game, the Kings named Derek Van Every as their team captain.

Dresden heads to Blenheim on Saturday in their next game.

Wallaceburg hosts the top-ranked 73s on Wednesday in their next game.
