The Salvation Army has been a part of Chatham-Kent since 1882 and provides a wide range so services and programs.
In particular at our Wallaceburg Family Services assistance is provided to meet many basic needs.
These include food, clothing, furniture and housing supports.
Support programs are also available in the area of money management and youth.
Seasonal programs such as camps in the summer and Christmas assistance in the form of toys and food hamper.
In the summer of 2014 we were able to expand our community gardens at our Wallaceburg location to include a forest garden.
One of our goals is to provide healthy options to our clients.
This is being done through the gardens and with the generous donations of fresh products received from local farmers and community members.
Our plan is to continue to expand these gardens to provide much needed fruits and vegetables to our clients at our four food banks.
Providing opportunities for clients to learn how to plant, maintain, harvest and enjoy their own fresh produce is all part of this program.
All services and programs, except the camping program are provided to clients at no charge. Most of our programs and services work at addressing basic needs of the members of our community.
Donations received through our Red Kettles, and other sources are used to fund these services and programs.
It is important for a person’s wellbeing to have a healthy diet which is why we aim to have the best quality of food available to the vulnerable people in our community.
By empowering our clients with the knowledge of our various programs we are increasing their self confidence in themselves and providing them with the hope of a better future.
