A.A. Wright Public School in Wallaceburg celebrated “Movember” today with celebration, which included some fake mustaches for the students.
Some funds were also raised for the Canadian Cancer Society.
“We’re over $400 and donations keep coming in,” said Jen Parrish, the Grade 3/4 teacher at the school. “It was a parents idea (Jen Bowen) and we’ve raised funds for the whole week. All the kids had to do was bring in donations and today everybody got a mustache.”
Parrish said it was her classes job to count up the money and do all the graphing.
“It was funny, this whole morning they kept asking when we were going to start learning, but the whole time they were counting money, they were doing graphs and they had no clue they were learning the whole time,” she said. “They understand that we are giving back and I asked how many kids in the class were effected by cancer and probably 90 per cent of them put their hand up. They’re feeling pretty good about it.”
Principal Ben Hazzard said S & J Pizza and Subs donated a pizza party Movietime donated a movie for the winning class – Heather Stewart’s Grade 1 class.
“It was nice, we didn’t ask the students to bring in very much, maybe a loonie or a toonie,” Hazzard said. “If we all brought together in together we could raise some money for a worthy cause.”
