The Flying W’s Gymnastics Club in Wallaceburg are always looking for ways to improve.
And Linnea Druer, the head coach for the club, said they are thrilled to add some new equipment to their repertoire.
“We have been working doing a lot of different fundraisers throughout the years, selling baskets and all kinds of stuff,” she said. “With us being non-profit, we try and take whatever money we can make from registration and we try and put it back into the club.”
Druer added: “This session we got brand new bars. Our old ones were ready to be replaced. So we went out and got some new bars and the girls seem to be really liking it.”
Druer said the new equipment is more advanced and creates more options for their coaches and students.
“They’re easier for setting up different heights and extension for different skills,” she said. “When they start to grow into more advanced skills, the bars will grow with them. They can move on from basic skills and work on higher level.”
Druer said all the kids in the program can utilize the new bars as well.
“They adjust, so our tiny tot classes, all the way up to our more advanced girls that we have,” she said.
The fall session for the club is just winding down, but another session is set to start back up in January.
“It’s open for anybody,” Druer said. “We have kids programs that start at 18 months and they go all the way up to high school even if they want. We have badge levels, we also have one hour classes available, we have two hour classes available, tiny tots, parent and tot, Kindergym… we have a lot of programs that are for kids of any age. We’re looking to expand and offer more classes too.”
Classes are offered three nights a week: Monday, Wednesday and Fridays in the Wallaceburg District Secondary School gymnasium.
Druer said close to 200 kids were signed up for the current session across the different programs.
“Most kids when they start, they do come back,” she said. “I’ve had some girls that I started coaching when they were just little and now they’re going to be in high school.”
She added: “Most of the coaches we do have here have gone through the program and then we send them to coaching clinics to get their schooling and they take over and learn and they start coaching for us. So it works out great.”
The next registration dates are Monday, December 15 and Wednesday, December 17 from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. at WDSS.
