On December 4, 2014, Chatham-Kent Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers, in conjunction with the OPP Aircraft Enforcement Program (AEP), conducted a speed enforcement initiative on Highway 401 in the Chatham-Kent area.
During the initiative, just after 3:00 p.m., a motor vehicle collision was reported eastbound near Duart Road, involving a tractor trailer that had been cut off by a pickup truck pulling a trailer, causing the tractor trailer to leave the roadway and come to rest in the centre median.
The pickup truck did not stop, and was reported to have continued eastbound. With the assistance of the OPP AEP, the pickup was located a short time later and stopped by responding officers on the highway.
No injuries were reported. The motor vehicle collision investigation is continuing. The eastbound lanes of the highway were closed for a short time to facilitate the removal of the tractor trailer.
As a result of the OPP AEP speed enforcement initiative, officers laid 10 charges under the Highway Traffic Act.
