Chatham-Kent officials are set to sit down with a hockey club, who requested such meeting with the Municipality.

While the team or league has not been confirmed, rumours are swirling that it would be with the Plymouth Whalers of the Ontario Hockey League.

Earlier this week, Whalers owner Peter Karmanos told Craig Custance, senior NHL writer for ESPN The Magazine, he’s targeting a small Canadian city for relocation.

“Hopefully, Chatham,” Karmanos said.

Don Shropshire, Chatham-Kent’s Chief Administrative Officer, told the Chatham-Kent Sports Network the meeting will happen before Christmas.

“We’ve been asked to take a meeting,” Shropshire said. “This is the fourth time that there has been somebody wanting to talk to the Municipality. Like any other business looking to potentially invest in Chatham-Kent, we want to sit down and talk.”
